Kinky Sexy Women’s History
Hello, my Sexy Perverts! If you’re reading my femdom blog, you (should) know that March is Women’s History Month. Here at the Enchantrix Empire, we celebrate all things strong women, kink, and sexiness. This has made me think a lot about how all of these things come together. And I thought it might be fun to take a look at a few moments in women’s history that do just that.
The Kinky Sexy History of Nylon Stockings
One thing that nearly all of us here at the Enchantrix Empire – both Mistresses and callers alike love is nylon stockings. Whether we’re talking about thigh-highs, pantyhose, garter belts, fishnets, or fully fashioned seamed nylons, we love them. I’ve posted a lot of retro stockings pictures on our Enchantrix Empire forum lately and it has had me thinking about the history of nylons and how they’ve influenced women’s sexuality and female domination over the years. (By the way, if you’re not a member of our EE forum site, you should be! It’s a lot of fun and it’s free to join and interact with us there)
Whether you like to wear them, see beautiful women wearing them or both, very few other items of clothing have been fetishized or have come to symbolize femininity, elegance, sex appeal, and even power more than nylon stockings. Although stockings have been worn for centuries by both men and women, the nylon stockings we think of today have only been around for less than 100 years.
Why? Because nylon – or any man-made fibers for that matter, didn’t even exist until the 1930’s. Before that, stockings were primarily made of silk which was not only expensive but very delicate. As a result of this, silk stockings were not available or practical for most people.
An Immediate Sexy Kinky Sensation!
Then, in 1939, the first pair of nylon stockings were introduced at of all places, the World’s Fair. And they were an immediate sensation when they went on sale to the public. These gorgeous, early nylons were “fully fashioned” which means that they were sewn into their leg shape from a flat piece of knitted nylon fabric. The process of stitching together the fabric resulted in the iconic seam that ran up the back of the leg. It was a labor-intensive, handmade process – almost an art form.
Nylon was an improvement over silk stockings in a lot of ways. It was affordable, widely available, and much more practical for women to wear. Nylon stockings could be worn, washed, and worn again many times if you were careful. They were also tight and form-fitting thanks to the stretchy quality of the knitted nylon fabric – much more sexy and flattering than the looser, inelastic silk ones that were previously worn.
Unfortunately, the nylon stocking frenzy was to be short-lived. Only a year later, all manufacturing of nylon in the United States was allocated away from hosiery and toward military items needed for World War Two. Women were even asked to donate the precious nylons they already owned to the war effort. But, this new style was around long enough to make a huge impression on women.
A Kinky Sexy Women’s History Crisis!
And once they were no longer available to them, nylon black markets sprung up and women who could afford it spent exorbitant amounts of money on a single pair. Women who couldn’t afford black market prices resorted to drawing a line up the back of their bare legs to mimic the look of the seam. My own grandmother has talked about seeing her older sisters doing this.
And when Nylons were back on the market in 1945, women were so desperate to buy them that riots broke out in stores when they inevitably sold out. Can you imagine a Real Housewives-style fight complete with hair pulling, nail scratching, and face slapping, but in 1945? Over nylon stockings?
The point is that even after a very short time, nylon stockings became fully intertwined with femininity and female sexuality. You can see this in erotica from the time in pinup girls, Bettie Page style fetish photo spreads and Men’s magazine covers to name a few. They have also become inextricably linked to the image of all types of female domination fetishes.
Kinky Sexy Nylon Stockings Today
By the 1960’s, elegant fully fashioned stockings and garter belts were all but replaced by the more utilitarian style of pantyhose which were, I suppose, more practical and comfortable to wear. And by the 1990’s bare legs became the fashion and nylons were seen as old-fashioned and out of style.
Today, even though they are no longer an everyday fashionable item, nylon stockings are still commonly found in many stores. Now, women and men alike can purchase them and choose when and where to wear them. This seems to have only reinforced their current role that celebrates sexuality, feminity, and female empowerment along with being a fetishized item of clothing.
And I can certainly attest that they give you that extra feeling of sexiness and confidence every time you choose to wear them, like nothing else does.
